Overview
The FX17 is FiiO's top IEM, with thirteen drivers in each earpiece: one dynamic driver with a lithium-magnesium diaphragm for the bass, four Knowles balanced armatures for the mids and upper mids, and eight Sonion electrostatic drivers for everything above 6 kHz. Electrostatic drivers are very light films that reach far into the treble but play quietly, so FiiO uses eight of them to make them clearly audible next to the other drivers; an electronic and physical five-way crossover divides the work. The midrange balanced armatures are a type FiiO developed with Knowles, with vents in the back for fuller vocals. The shell is milled from one block of titanium and polished by hand; this Silver version has a mirror finish, and every pair carries a serial-numbered nameplate. The cable combines gold, silver and copper conductors and comes with three swappable plugs: 3.5 mm, 4.4 mm balanced, and USB-C with a built-in DSP decoder (up to 32-bit/384 kHz) that holds an 8-band EQ you set in the FiiO Control app (Android) or on FiiO's website.
- 1 dynamic + 4 Knowles BA + 8 Sonion electrostatic per side
- Titanium shell, mirror-polished
- 3.5 mm, 4.4 mm and USB-C (DSP) plugs
How it sounds
Frequency response
Dashed line: the Harman IE 2019 target
Measured by Super* Review (IEC 711 clone), published on squig.link. Independent measurement, not by us. Measuring rigs differ slightly above 8 kHz.
Sound signature
Warm
Rich lows and relaxed treble. Smooth and fatigue-free.
Read from the measurement above: bass and treble compared with Harman IE 2019. One curve gives an indication, not the final word.
Calm and refined. Bass and mids sit close to the Harman IE 2019 target, with a little less deep bass below 60 Hz (about 3 dB). Between 2 and 8 kHz the FX17 stays 4 to 6 dB under the target, and above 8 kHz some air comes back. Voices sound soft and relaxed, without sharp edges, while there is still detail up top. Measured at a normal insertion depth; deeper or shallower insertion mainly changes the treble.
