In-ear monitors are often much more sensitive than over-ear headphones, so they need only a fraction of the output of a phone, laptop or player. At those low settings you can hear background hiss, and with a digital volume control up to 2 bits of resolution are lost, according to iFi. The iEMatch+ sits between your source and your earphones and lowers the signal, so you can turn the source up to a level where it works best while the music stays at a comfortable, safe volume. iFi quotes 12.24 dB less noise and no loss in frequency response. It works with 3.5 mm single-ended sources and earphones as well as 3.5 mm TRRS balanced ones, and its minZ helix cable keeps capacitance and inductance low and shields against interference.
