FiiO FT1 (black)

The FT1 is FiiO's first closed-back over-ear headphone, and this is the black version with cups of solid American black walnut; the dense wood helps damp resonance and standing waves inside the cup. Its large 60 mm dynamic driver has a diaphragm of about 0.1 mm made from the pulp of 90-year-old Nordic spruce with added carbon fibre, on a soft PU surround, which FiiO says gives a warm, full sound. Closed-back means the cups are sealed: FiiO's isolation parts cut everyday noise by up to 26 dB, and a U-shaped damping tube is there to extend the bass, so it works for commuting, the office and gaming as well as at home. At 32 Ω and 98 dB/mW it can be used straight from a phone or dongle as well as from a desktop amp. Two 1.5 m silver-plated copper cables are included, one with a 3.5 mm plug and one with a balanced 4.4 mm plug, plus a 6.35 mm adapter.
